What Matters To You? THE FUTURE OF MOONEE VALLEY

Dear Residents of Essendon and Moonee Ponds,

It is with great excitement and a deep sense of commitment and inspired action that I introduce myself as an Independent Candidate in the newly formed Woodlands Ward for our upcoming council election this October 2024. My name is Mark Errichiello, many of you already know me as a local trader and my participation in the Essendon North Village Traders Association as Chairperson 2019-2021 and Executive Committee Member since 2017. I truly believe that my passion for our City of Moonee Valley, supporting local residents and the business community is second to none.

I am honoured to have the opportunity to ask for your support in this important endeavour.

Having lived and worked in this incredible community for most of my life, I’ve grown up in Brunswick and Brunswick West during my childhood and teenage years, and in Essendon and Strathmore area throughout my adult life and still call Moonee Valley home to this day. And together with my wonderful wife Michelle, we are now raising our 2 daughters here as well. In fact, I’ve probably seen you around Little Athletics in Essendon, where Michelle is actively involved on the Committee. Or at one of the many Essendon North Village Traders Association meetings over time.

Throughout my career working in real estate in our community, I have developed a deep understanding of the issues that affect us in our daily lives. My experiences have equipped me with the skills to navigate complex problems, forge meaningful partnerships, and drive positive change.

Navigating the complexities of cost of living, housing affordability, and the current supply crisis requires a united effort. As our population grows, real estate values will inevitably rise, impacting land value, municipal rates, and rental prices.

I am eager to serve as your Independent council member and work towards creating a thriving, inclusive, and resilient community for all. I am committed to fostering a collaborative environment where community members, local businesses, organisations, and the council work together to achieve common goals.

INDEPENDENT OF ANY POLITICAL PARTY: No Political Party Endorsement or Funding. VOTE INDEPENDENT – Keep party politics out of council.

Your Voice, My Commitment

If I am elected as your councillor, my mission is to represent your interests and ensure Moonee Valley thrives. I pledge to go beyond the basics of roads, rates, and rubbish to foster a united, vibrant community. I am particularly passionate about the following priorities:

  • Community First – Unity is Strength
  • Serving Local Residents, Businesses and Ratepayers:
  • Advocating for the needs of children, families, and pets.
  • Enhancing the quality of life and services for all community members and visitors.

Economic Vitality:

  • Supporting local businesses and fostering economic development. I am committed to advocating and endorsing ‘Support Your Local’ business initiatives, along with vibrant community events and campaigns. I also pledge to meticulously scrutinise the expenditure of ratepayers’ money, ensuring it is invested wisely in essential community services, facilities, and projects that align with our residents’ most urgent needs. By prioritising these issues on our council agenda and through strategic future vision planning.
  • Promoting low to medium-rise development within designated zones, close to key amenities and transport hubs. (With regards to the State Government Housing Statement and Victorian Planning Authority Activity Centre Plans for North Essendon and Niddrie, without compromise, the infrastructure and services must be improved and come first, before considering any compromise of an increase in height and density of our activity centres). Rising population, cost of living inflation and need for more housing is already putting pressure on households and affordability to buy or rent. Adequate services and infrastructure must be established to cope in future based on our current system that is already under pressure.

Advocacy and Infrastructure:

  • Advocacy and consulting with the State Government to address local issues, including schools, housing, and
    public infrastructure.
  • Ensuring our major roads, arterials, and public transport systems meet the needs of our growing community.
  • Continuing to champion for action and accountability of state government to provide transparency, updates and action on the urgent re-design and upgrades of the dangerous Essendon North Village roundabouts and intersections.

Together, we can build a flourishing

Inclusive Moonee Valley.

Your voice matters
– let’s make it heard!

From Tragedy to Triumph:

Taking it back a few years, the life events that shaped our family, and the love we have for our community that embraced us in a time of need, made us who we are today. My wife Michelle began her career in real estate in 2002. We met at work, fell in love, and within a few years, we were engaged to be married in 2005. However, at the age of 24, Michelle’s life changed forever. During a freak workplace accident in 2007, an out-of-control vehicle jumped the footpath and crushed Michelle against the exterior wall of our office building on Union Road, at our workplace Raine & Horne Ascot Vale. As a result, she suffered a traumatic
amputation of her right leg.

Despite this life-altering event, Michelle rehabilitated triumphantly. We married that same year in 2007, and Michelle went on to learn how to walk and run again using a prosthetic leg, even though she was told she would never run again. Running became her passion. In her short four year running career, Michelle broke the 100m and 200m T42 athletics world records. She was awarded the Pride of Australia Courage Medal, named Athletics Essendon Athlete of the Year, received scholarships from both the Victorian Institute of Sport and Australian Institute of Sport, and represented Australia at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Family, Business and Community Life:

I am a father of two amazing daughters, plus our fur-child German Shepherd Strudel, and husband to my rock, wife, and business partner, Australian Paralympian Michelle Errichiello, with whom I co-founded Master Advocates in 2014 as a husband and wife team.

I have operated a real estate business with my family, whist leasing commercial premises between Ascot Vale and Essendon since I began my real estate career in 2000. In 2014 Michelle and I established our own Independent Real Estate Buyers & Vendors Advocacy business.

My passion for community and people was sparked by my father, Tony Errichiello, and my brother, George Errichiello. I followed their footsteps into real estate at our family-run real estate office, Raine&Horne Ascot Vale. Watching my father actively support the community through his involvement with local Traders Associations in Brunswick and Ascot Vale, his nine-year tenure as an Independent Councillor for the City of Brunswick, and his role as Chairman of the Brunswick Electricity Supply significantly influenced me. My family, along with my personal and professional experiences, fuels my dedication to community service.

It is also the catalyst propelling my candidacy to be your preferred Councillor of the Woodlands Ward in the Moonee Valley City Council elections this October 2024.
